Postpartum Doula Services

Postpartum Doulas are more than just a mothers helper or night nurse. Postpartum Doulas help families transition home with a new bundle of joy. Evidence Based information on topics of infant feeding, recovery from the birth (physical and emotional), baby-parent bonding, soothing as well as other newborn care basics. No two families are alike and each of the dynamics will vary.

Most postpartum doulas provide support within the first 6 weeks of a baby’s life. Shifts will vary between a few days to to a few weeks, depending on the family needs.

What does a postpartum doula DO?

There is a major misconception that postpartum services are much like having a nanny or a maid. Let me make this clear -Postpartum doulas are NOT nannies, nor are they maids. Doulas, like myself, have strict guidelines in our contracts outlining basics in assisting with light cleaning and cooking. However, we will not reorganize your bedroom or home to accommodate your newborn.

Postpartum doulas WILL help you with establishing new life routines, breastfeeding support, newborn care while parents take some times to themselves (example to shower, sleep or eat a meal together), and postpartum doulas can provide resources of local classes or support groups if needed. Think of a postpartum doula as “mothering the mother” or “mothering the family” as they establish their new routines, get to know their baby and how to integrate into their new life as parents. Postpartum services are not just for first time parents but for anyone. As state before, doulas can help with the physical and emotional recovery from birth. Had a c-section? No worries, a postpartum doula can make sure you are not lifting much and resting as much as possible. Is this your 2nd or 3rd baby? Need an extra hand? No problem! Postpartum doulas are that special helper every family wishes they had.
